Centrifugal pump is the most essential and important equipment used essentially and extensively in all industrial plants where fluid handling is involved. The operation of a centrifugal pump is solely depends on its own flow-head characteristic curve. The operating point is always where the pump curve meets the flow-head system resistance curve of pumping system that particular pump is handling. Hence the importance of using those curves and the calculation to determine the operating point parameters can not be overemphasized.

Pump characteristic curve is generally provided by the pump manufacturer, who generates it by fitting a reasonable curve using the test point parameters for a wide operating range of the pump. System resistance curve is a prerogative of the user who generates it using static/fixed head requirement and variable frictional resistances based on flow requirement.

Pump-system-curve software facilitates a very handy way of generating both pump curve and system curve using the data point parameters provided by the user and automatically solving for the operating point parameters. User can choose from wide selection of the types curves to fit the provided data depending upon the reliability and diversity for the pump curve, system curve and pump efficiency curve. The pump and system curve cal also be generated using only two point data where large number of data is unavailable specially in initial stages of the project.
